Springville Post Office Art

current po

The Springville Post Office was built in 1937. Its design was by Louis A. Simon of the U. S. Office of the Treasury which was then responsible for the construction of federal buildings. This design is identical to the post offices in Ticonderoga, Attica, East Rochester, Albion, St. Johnsville, Canajoharie, Harrision, Delhi, Delmar, Lowville, Orchard Park, and Little Valley. One percent of the construction budget for the post offices was set aside for "decoration." Look here for background on post office art.

The mural installed above the Postmaster's Office, 12' by 4' 2", was mounted by artist Victoria Hutson Huntley in 1938. She won a competition for the project. To read more about the project and artist, see the article here from the Magazine of Art.
